Could it be an ___? The year before, ___ had seen one for the first time when his mother took him to a ___ ___ in ___, ___ ___. He had ___, ___, as the ___a ___ by ___ on the ___ of a ___ that was ___ on the ___. Now ___ an ___ was right here in ___, and about to ___ over his house. Not ___ to ___ a thing, ___ the ___ and ___ up the ___ of the house to its ___. From there he had a good ___ of the ___, ___ the ___ place. And in the ___, ___ ever ___, he saw the ___.

Could it be an ___? The year before, ___ had seen one for the first time when his mother took him to a ___ in ___, ___.  He had watched, ___, as the ___ gave a ___ by ___ on the ___ of a ___ that was ___ on the ground.  Now maybe an ___ was right here in ___, and about to ___ over his house.  Not ___ to ___ a thing, ___ opened the window and ___ up the ___ of the house to its ___.  From there he had a good

view of the ___ River, ___ past the ___ place. And in the sky, coming ever ___, he saw the ___.

Could it be an airplane? The year before, Charles had seen one for the first time when his mother took him to a flying ___ in ___, Virginia. He had watched, ___, as the ___ gave a ___ by ___ oranges on the ___ of a ___ that was ___ on the ground. Now maybe an airplane was right here in ___, and about to fly over his house. Not ___ to ___ a thing, Charles opened the window and climbed up the ___ roof of the house to its ___. From there he had a good view of the ___ River, ___ past the ___ place. And in the sky, coming ever closer, he saw the plane.

Could it be an airplane? The year before, Charles had seen one for the first time when his mother took him to a flying exhibition in Fort Myer, Virginia. He had watched,

enthralled, as the pilot gave a bombing demonstration by dropping oranges on the

outline of a battleship that was traced on the ground. Now maybe an airplane was right here in Minnesota, and about to fly over his house. Not wanting to miss a thing,

Charles opened the window and climbed up the sloping roof of the house to its peak.

From there he had a good view of the Mississippi River, flowing languidly past the

Lindbergh place. And in the sky, coming ever closer, he saw the plane (Giblin.

Lindberg:A Human Hero).
